For real, or as the kids say “true dat”. Yes, oddly enough, the day to act foolish, I determined I would blog. Foolish of me? I do not know about that, but at least for the next 30 days I’m going to commit to sharing my daily experiences with my roommate, PD.  Some of you know PD.  Some of you are intimate with PD… no, I won’t go there! Then again, many of you probably didn’t know PD too until you met me. For those of you who want to know about me and PD, read on…

The short version goes like this = I first met PD through my friend.  My friend, a dear friend recognized something was wrong with me. Now as most men do, I denied anything was wrong. Luckily she kept pushing me to see a doctor. My doctor took his good old time and so for a couple of months nothing was resolved. Eventually I got to a neurologist, and since she wanted me to really be sure about her diagnosis, she recommended me to a specialist at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

This is when I finally realized for sure PD had entered my life.  I have Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The moment the first neurologist told me I had it, it was honestly only for a brief, minute moment did I feel sorry for myself. With the confirmation by my doctor at UBC I redetermined I will become a challenger to this illness. It’s been 6 years since that moment, and Parkinson’s Disease will not rule my life.  I have a mission to live with great dignity and to help eradicate this disease from existence.

In the meantime PD is living with me. Not the most pleasant roommate, but you ‘deal’ with it.  Most days we get along, but one PD will move out!  Anyway, in regards to PD, PD wants you to know it’s Awareness Month for all of April.  Do what you can to support the discovery of a cure.

As for PD and me, we’ll share each day how I’m doing, and occasionally let you into my mind.  It’s an odd place where random thoughts are battling to express themselves.  Some of these thoughts might come out, so I hope you don’t mind if on occasion I go off on a tangent from my topic.
